Cyberstalking

You know, people have always said you can never be too careful on the internet, and I have always shrugged it off like, “oh it will never happen to me”…Well it did. It all started this past Tuesday when a made up facebook person contacted my husband with some falsified information about myself. I ended up writing this person a few messages of my own..and then with no explanations, even though “she” was continuously contacting my husband, I notified the authorities 🙂
You know, it wouldn’t have been that big of a deal, but a few months back a friend on a mommy forum I belong to, ended up leaving her job of 5 years due to a VERY similar situation, and this person got away with it. I did some research on the internet and apparently this is something that happens frequently and is known as “cyberstalking.”  Most of the time it’s someone who just gets off on this sort of thing and doesn’t know you at all they just run across your profile, other times it’s an acquaintance, and sometimes a “friend.” I have a feeling this person either has access to my facebook profile by being a “friend”, has access to my posts on a public mommy forum, or has access to this blog. They really hit me where it hurts, and they knew how to do just that…I am 90% sure at this point I know who it is, just from information I have gathered…but am just waiting for the police to identify this person by obtaining the IP address from the facebook logs. It’s really sad that the world has come to this and people get pleasure from causing harm to people and families.
Just be careful what you share online, because someone you think you know, may not be the person you thought they were/are!!
