Recipe: Broccoli Salad

This is one of my favorite recipes that I make. I don’t make it often because I am the only one that eats it. It’s super easy and super yummy!

1 large head of broccoli
1/4 cup of red onion (I used white because I didn’t have red)
1/2 cup of raisins
1/2 cup of mayonnaise
1/4 cup of sugar
2 tablespoons of vinegar (I used white, but you can use red wine vinegar)
8 slices of cooked bacon, crumbled

Cut up the broccoli so it’s only florets.
Chop up the onion.
In a separate bowl mix together the mayo, sugar, and vinegar.
In a larger bowl throw in the broccoli, onion, raisins, and bacon.
Pour the dressing over the top and coat to mix well.
Refrigerate for a few hours before eating.

The longer it sets, the better it gets!!!

  1. Julie, I made this yesterday, less than 24 hours ago, and there is only enough for one small bowl of it left. I ate it for breakfast!

  5. cheryl lister says:

LOVE this salad! my recipe is almost exactly the sme as this one, except for the addition of some sunflower seeds. I do find I like the broccoli better if I slightly cook it first in the microwave for a couple minutes to soften it a bit.

I had broccoli salad once and loved it! We are a Hellman’s Mayonnaise family. Does this work better with Hellman’s or Miracle Whip Salad dressing? And have you ever put some shredded cheese in it? I’m thinking just a little bit of shredded cheese would be good in it.

    • We are a Miracle Whip family so the first time I tried to make this salad, that’s what I used ( we didn’t have real mayo on hand). I can tell you it didn’t work. It was just awful! Have to use the mayo. A bit of shredded cheese doesn’t sound too bad though. :o)
