Top 5 Must Haves for New Baby

As a first time mom I know it’s so hard to know what you really need, I wanted to do a small gift guide of a few items that are things that I LOVE for a new baby. This isn’t everything you need, but it’s a great start! I know I have so many readers that are expecting, new moms, or even grandparents looking for that perfect gift.
I had this with my second daughter and I had problems breastfeeding her, so I did a lot of exclusive pumping. That wouldn’t have been possible without this pump. I HIGHLY recommend it, very good quality and no complaints from me.
One of my favorite infant car seats that lasts longer than a lot of the others out there on the market. This seat holds babies from 4-30lbs, while most seats only hold up to 22lbs. The base of the seat makes for an easy install.
Don’t be intimidated by this wrap. It’s very easy to put on there are so many how to videos out there that will teach you. This allows you to carry baby from about 8lbs and up. The wrap puts all the weight of the baby on your entire back and shoulders, so you don’t really feel any strain when wearing baby. I LOVED this with my babies. I wore my second, every where we went. The Moby comes in a variety of colors.
I have one of these in a different color, and I can’t tell you how many compliments I get on this. It’s stylish and doesn’t look like your typical diaper bag. It has a built in changing station with an easy to wipe down mat as well as several different pockets for diapers, bottles, and more.
This isn’t your average stroller, but it’s great for every day use. It’s easy to use, lightweight, and easy to fold up. I personally do not have one of these, but it’s at the top of my wish list. My friend has one and it’s SO easy to maneuver and fold up. This will hold up to 50lbs.
That’s the end of my Top 5 items for right now. I hope to continue this for all of my expectant mommy readers! For all of your baby needs and purchases, check out a great store and favorite of mine, Pish Posh Baby.

Great advice. Our most used product was definitely the Medela PIS. Yes, it costs a lot but it is worth it to buy a high quality breast pump.

  6. This is an awesome list! Can’t wait to start stocking up for baby prep. 🙂

  7. Sam Dock says:

The only thing I would really add to this is a good nursing pillow!

I have 2 of the five (the Medela pump and the Moby wrap) and they are at the top of my “must have” list too. I like that diaper bag, and wish I had one though.

  11. That’s my breast pump and carseat! And the stroller I want! Breast pump was so worth the money and the carseat we felt was absolutely the best for safety. The City Mini is also the most lightweight, easy to collapse stroller we found. That’s exciting that I was 3 for 5! lol

  12. Rebecca Xavier says:

This list includes some pretty great products. I have the breast pump and it is awesome.

  13. Shakeeta W says:

I definitely agree with # 1 & #3!! Having a Moby was a lifesaver in my daughter’s early days and having a pump like that with my son would have been a lifesaver over the older model Medela I had!

  14. Ashley Suzanne says:

    Love that bag!

  15. Jessica Greenleaf says:

I too have the medela pump and it saved me so many times. I would loveto try the stroller too.

  19. tiffany dover says:

I just can’t believe all of the awesome products they have. I’ve never even heard of pish posh until now!

  20. Danielle D says:

I cannot tell you how great seeing things like this is for a first time mom! I get so many people telling me so many different things, it is nice to have a list made out, with logical reasons why it is a good (or must have) option; a little tired of only hearing, because it is the best lol. Thank you for these.

  21. I love that there are so many new, innovative baby products these days!

  22. Tracy adler says:

These are great ideas for first time moms. Being a soon-to-be first time mom myself, I have to say I have done a ton of research on what is the best for the baby… Several of these came up in my research.

  23. I agree with all of these.. add cloth diapers!

  24. Susan Johnson says:

Thanks for the review and the list of top picks, which help not only mothers to be, but gift givers, as well. While Pish Posh prides itself on giving its customer the best of what’s out there to choose from, it is individual reviews like yours I really value.

  25. Nathalia says:

    Love these items!

  26. brittany f says:

I have that pump. I love it! I’ve used it for 2 kids now.

  27. That bag is adorable – you’re right, I wouldn’t have known it was a diaper bag if it wasn’t in the context of this post!

  28. Julie M. says:

I have always been intimidated by the Moby wrap, but learning there are videos out there to help has me wanting to try one! Thanks for the tip!!!

  29. Shannon Lucas says:

I have both the breast pump and City Mini stroller-and I agree, they both are great! I also couldn’t live without a vibrating bouncy seat for my daughter during those first few months

  30. Rachel O says:

You have such adorable bedding. My toddler has been begging me for a “bigger big girl bed.” I think some new big girl bedding should hold her over for a while longer!

  31. Good advice! I’m having a baby at the end of the month and am trying to make sure I have all the essentials without going overboard. Thanks for the help!

  32. Dorothy Boucher says:

great advice and also a nursing pillow would be nice 😉 thanks for the review @tisonlyme143

  33. naomi c says:

great list of must haves – we have been looking at the city mini too!

  34. Gail Williams says:

All of these are fabulous products. My last baby was born 29 years ago and none of these products were around, but since she is having her first…she will want ALL of these!!!

  35. Jessica says:

That breast pump is fantastic. I used to cart it to work with me. I love that you can plug it in and use batteries.

  36. Megan M says:

I’m so glad I saw this post! I’ve been stressing over which pump is best, but now I have my answer! Thank you so much for the great information!

  37. I love all of the Pish Posh baby bedding. I am expecting a granddaughter in September and I see so many lovely things that would look cute in her room!

  38. Rebecca R says:

I Have to agree with the first four in your list. But since finding woven wraps our stroller has been gathering dust in the shed. If you love the Moby, A woven is the next step up.

  39. Carissa joslyn says:

This is a great list of must haves! I personally have never had any of these, but most were on my wish list, but being single with no income kind of limits what I can get! I have tried a few baby carriers and wraps, but my son wasn’t into the baby wearing to much-He’d rather me hold him.

  40. My daughter in law is due in 3 weeks with baby #2 and she has all 5 of what you mentioned. She has some of the Chicco products and loves them. She had a Sweet Peace swing that was just awesome for our first grandson. I’m sure they still make them. She kept everything from the first one…can’t wait to hold our new grandson!!!!!

  41. Rachel A. says:

I exclusively pump for my son as well so the Medela pump is worth every penny (even though I got mine used). I also have the Moby Wrap which worked great when he was a newborn. He wiggles too much for it now.

I can not imagine spending that much on a BAG, but that is just me. To each their own!

  42. Great list! Definately a help when it’s your first time around! Now, if only a nanny was included for all first timers! lol

Thank you for sharing : )

    Robin R

  43. Ashley Gondzur says:

I definitely agree with this list! The Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack is pricey, but you can’t beat the built-in changing pad. It makes changing diapers on-the-go so much easier! I also LOVE my Medela breast pump, I pumped at work for 8 months with mine. Last but not least, Chicco car seats are the best. I love mine and so does my daughter!

  44. Cheryl Rahkonen says:

I am helping my daughter buy the items she needs for her new baby. She has the stroller, diaper bag, and car seat. She is not breastfeeding due to health issues but I would replace the breast pump with a baby monitor.

  45. Dee Mauser says:

Great list! My daughter who’s pregnant and will be delivering any day now although her due date isn’t until August 23rd is in dire need of a breast pump but aside from that I’ve made sure she has everything else listed and then some. Getting started before your first child is a lot of work. hehee!

  46. marissa lee says:

these are all great products to have…..i will be putting all of this on my registry,,thank you for sharing.

  47. Carolyn K says:

I see those city mini strollers everywhere, and they look fantastic! I have to try one out.

  48. Kelly A. Tanner says:

I really love the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack! I’m due with #3 and think it’s about time I had a nice baby bag! <3 Great Must Haves!

  49. natalie nichols says:

I had that same breast pump and it was wonderful. I would rather get a jogging stroller than a regular one though. I have a B.O.B. Revolution SE, with swivel for walking, and locking mech. for running. I wouldn’t be fit without it, seriously.

  50. Shannon says:

I had registered for a Moby Wrap and then was talked out of it. Mama’s seem to love them and I wish I had used one for my baby.

  51. Jan Lee says:

I wanted to get a second stroller for my niece but my sister bought her a double stroller so she doesn’t have to carry two strollers around. (Nice of grandma, lol) However she does need two car seats and I saw some on Pish Posh baby that would be great since her second child is now a little past the newborn stage. He’s still a baby of course so the infant car seat would be great. I like the Petunia Picklebottom bag, but my niece has several bags already, 🙂 Thank you for the review!

  52. miranda leigh says:

i love how you can try out the car seats in store. i live in nj and really need to make my way over to check out the brick and mortar store!

  53. desiree says:

we have 2 baby coming and need all new stuff

  54. Dana West says:

I would really love to have the Medela. I have to definitely get these things!

  55. Diana Ward says:

Your recommendations and reviews seem very well thought out and honest. Thanks.

  56. Michele R says:

I loved my Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump and love my Baby Jogger (I got the GT). I also think a good baby carrier is essential. I had the Moby and liked wrapping my son but found it a little hot for the summer weather.

  57. I like the stroller – the Baby Jogger City Mini $249.99 – we have a daughter who is just over one and this would be great for her. Thanks for this giveaway – it is very thoughtful!

  58. Shelbie Clement says:

I love Chicco Car Seats and Petunia Pickle Bottom Diaper Bags!!!!

  59. Lisa Lancaster says:

I love the products you have to offer. My daughter is due Aug.6 with her first child a little girl and I wish I could buy everything you all post but since I cant think you so much for the opportunity to try to win something for her.

  60. Nicole Becker says:

I love how the “New” Mommies are now using backpacks instead of diaper bags!! This is a great idea!! Also, I love the baby jogger strollers!! Never had them when my kids were born!! The old ones fell apart in a year!! LOL

  61. Katie L. says:

Thank You so much for this post! It’s a great read on items that are pre-approved! I Love Love Love Moby wraps and don’t know why so many people are so incredibly intimidated by them.

  62. Kaitlin says:

Agreed with an electric breast pump… tried to do it all with a hand pump on my first one… never again!

  63. Amy Dunn says:

I agree with you about the Top 5 Must Haves for New Baby. I loved having my Medela Pump with my first daughter and hope to get a Moby Wrap to use with my second daughter.

  64. laurie nykaza says:

These are all amazing products and my niece is expecting her first child and I know all new moms would need and love to have each of these. They did not have strollers like this one when I had my kids !

  65. Heidi C. says:

With twins both times and lots of difficulties in getting the babies to latch, the MEDELA Pump In Style was my best friend for over a year after each pregnancy! Was the best!

  66. Linda Bradshaw says:

My step daughter is about to have a baby soon. There are so many things out there now that I didnt have with my kids. She is going to have so much stuff to choose from.

  67. Nohemi L. says:

I have to agree with your must haves. A breast pump really does come in handy I know that first hand along with a carrier, it was the only way I could get things done around the house for a while.

  68. desiree says:

i now my sister could use all of this theya re strting over again and new baaby will be here some time in winter month

  69. KELLY MILLS says:

The moby wrap is our favorite. I def agree, expecially with newborns with belly issues.

  70. Darlene Ysaguirre says:

I think the breast pump is a must even when your not choosing to breast feed it helps relieve some of the pain in discomfort the first few weeks after pregnancy

  71. Don’t know if I would buy the same brands you did but I agree that the products are must-haves!

  72. Some great tips. As an exclusively bf mom, I love the Medela double breastpump- I have the “Freestyle” however, rather than the “In style” & it’s been great- expensive, but really worth the investment if you plan on bf for long. I personally found the Moby wrap frustrating, just too much material, & the stretchy fabric ended up with l.o. sagging. My Maya ring sling is my go-to carrier. We have the Chicco keyfit30 carseat & stroller combo in red & black. Great carseat but weighs a ton- hence why I love my ringsling so much. That baby jogger looks pretty nifty. There are a few things I would add to this list- for my collicky little guy, the Snuggabunny swing was a LIFESAVER when nothing else could get him to sleep & stay asleep. Also good nursing pads & nursing bras. I personally recommend cloth diapering, but it’s not for everyone :o)

  73. I LOVE that you have a breast pump and a Moby Wrap on this list!! Breastfeeding and “Baby wearing” are two of the best things to promote to help show new moms they are good things to do with/for their babies and to help show it is not such voodoo as most people seem to think they are.
I LOVED my Moby and I received a free breast pump from my insurance company when I had my first child. Breast pumps are really durable and LONG lasting as my daughter is 7 years old and I used it w/her and my two sons, youngest being 18 months old and nursed til about 12 months old.

  74. Pish Posh has great quality things. That diaper bag is snazzy and so is the stroller.

  75. MaryAnn says:

They have such cute items. Thanks for letting us know about them.

  76. Wendy Mastin says:

My daughter just had a baby and yes, I agree with all of your 5 must haves. We weren’t able to get the high-end products, but we got items almost like them.

  77. Shiela C. says:

I would love to win one of these baby stuff. It’ll be a great for my new baby

  78. Fernando Huerta says:

great adive! thank you so much! My wife and I cannot wait to buy everything we need for our new baby

  79. Bekah Kuczenski says:

This is a great list! I am due with my second baby in September and I luckily have a great car seat and stroller already. But, 2 things on my list are a breast pump and a new diaper bag! I have actually had my eye on Medela pumps… Thanks for this advice 🙂

  80. Renee H. says:

I loved my Moby wrap while it lasted. Once baby got to about 15lbs, I couldn’t use it anymore because it killed my back. I’m currently looking for a ring sling though.

  81. Melissa S says:

Thanks for recommending the breast pump, there are so many out there! It’s so hard to know which one is the right one to purchase.

  82. fancygrlnancy (Nancy Partin) says:

I agree with these picks.. but I’d have to add a boppy pillow. I love my boppy. And when baby gets a little older an Ergo to replace the moby. I liked the moby while he was little, but now I like the Ergo.

  83. John Hutchens says:

these are great items for my new baby on the way. the breast pump thing I hop she takes care of but the one uou recommended looks good. thanks for all the baby item reviews. things men dont think about too often

  84. Funkyfauna says:

I have everything on your list except the petunia pickle bottom diaper bag! I agree that your list contains “must have”items. I really need a better diaper bag myself, but I just can’t justify the expense. Wish the good ones were a bit cheaper 🙁

  85. Nicki Z. says:

Great list of new mama must haves… it’s a shame so many of them are out of my price range 🙁 I will be investing in the Medela Pump In Style Breast Pump as I’ll save tons of $ on formula by breastfeeding!

  86. Margaret says:

We chose the City mini stroller and have been so happy with it. The best feature is definitely how easy it is to fold.

  87. Cassandra Kelton says:

I would have loved an infant car seat that went up to 30 pounds. My baby outgrew hers way too fast! And I plan to get a Moby for my next baby. I learned about slings and carriers too late with my daughter so now she prefers to be held without one.

  88. AlannaB says:

The Medela Pump In Style would definitely top my list! That pump is the BEST of the best! I have tried a number of other pumps, all of which bit the dust after a month of two of use…but not the Pump In Style!

Now if only Pish Posh Baby would carry cloth diapers, then they would be the ultimate baby store! Wink, wink 😉

  89. Mary M. says:

I love my medela pump in style ! It is definitely a life saver for me and helps with my milk supply. I also would LOVE a carseat that is a better fit for taller babies. My infant outgrew hers by 3 months !

  90. Piper Leigh says:

Those are definitely must have’s for any parent with a baby! I didn’t have a carrier with my first, but am planning on getting one when we have our second. Great review! Thanks for the giveaway opportunity also!

  91. Colette says:

Thankfully, many other mamas also told me about the City Mini, the Medela Breast Pump and Moby Wrap. These items have made my life so much easier!!!

  92. This post was very interesting for me. A new baby will be joining our extended family later this year, and I’ve been looking at a lot of different products for the mother-to-be. Your selections for top 5 must-haves is really helpful. Thanks!

  93. Nicole U says:

I love the Moby wrap!! I’m able to wear my little one all over the house and get things done. I love that we have snuggle time:) I also have the Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack. I love the built in changing station.

  94. I agree 100% about needing a good pump! My mom said she used to have to pump by hand-I can’t possibly imagine using a single electric pump, let alone not having a pump at all! A good pump is definitely one of those things that’s worth the high price tag!

  95. I am loving all of these products! I had never heard of this website before but I have been on it for hours now looking at all of their amazing products! I love everything!

  96. cheryl lister says:

I’m now enjoying my grand children, but I do wish those sling-type baby carriers had been around when I had kids! They look like such a convenient and comfortable way to keep your baby close. I managed to get by without a breast pump, but with the busy schedules moms have these days, i can see how important it would be to have one of these, too.

  97. Rebecca Peters says:

Great list, I personally prefer my JuJube over the PP 😀 LOVE that stroller tho! 😀 ITs pretty wonderful!

  98. Michael Lambert says:

We had a lot of the things on the list. We really loved our Chicco car seat. We did a lot of research it was suppose to be one of the highest rated car seats.

  99. Christina Strapp says:

This is a great list of items. I wish I knew more about baby wearing. A few of these items I really wish I had, but now I know for our second one 🙂

  100. Ruth chu says:

a pump for sure and bassinet

  101. Lily Kwan says:

This gift guide is very helpful. Thanks for sharing!
