Exercise Your Kids Want to Do

#Sponsored It’s so important to break our kids away from technology and get their little bodies moving. I’m always encouraging my girls to do some kind of activity, whether it’s inside using their imaginations, or outside playing.

Exercise Your Kids Actually Want

Kids today face totally different obstacles in the challenge to stay fit and healthy. The main obstacle? Technology. Facebook, Twitter, advanced video games and hyper-smart mobile phones have each played a massive role in keeping our kids locked away indoors instead of outside playing.  But what can we do as parents to combat this? Simple: make exercise fun again.

Teach Your Children

New generations of children today are growing up with no memory of a world without the internet. In this environment of course, spending hour upon hour glued to Facebook seems like a fairly natural pastime. Ok, so we all have busy lives and may struggle to find time to entertain our kids as much as we might like. But allowing your children to become totally engulfed in the online world whilst their health and well being are neglected is simply bad parenting. If we are to have any effect on this new generation, we must lead by example. We must show our children that there are alternatives. Simply lecturing your kids isn’t good enough. Take them to the park yourself. Get them involved in sports. And allow them the respite of a few hours online if it means they are achieving a more balanced lifestyle.

Buy Them Presents That Enhance Fitness

Kids love to receive presents, particularly when it’s not even their birthday or Christmas! So take the initiative and buy them something that will help to enhance their fitness. Kickstart a hobby that will allow them to keep fit while having fun. Obviously you can’t tell your kids what sport or hobby they should be taking up, but you can at least try and gently nudge them towards a pastime that offers them satisfaction beyond simply how many ‘likes’ their last Facebook status update received! Strangely enough, hula hoops have been making a big comeback in the last few years. Not only is this old-school pastime oddly satisfying, but it is fantastic for building both fitness and muscle tone, both of which may be quite appealing to those teenagers wanting to look their best! Skateboarding has been and will always be popular; there’s a certain stigma of ‘cool’ about it. Of course it’s also great exercise as well. So consider getting your son or daughter a decent board from the Skatehut skateboard shop. Anything to get them moving! When I was growing up I loved using a skateboard, it was so much fun.

It’s Up To You

Getting your kids away from their smart phones will not be an easy task. But they certainly aren’t going to do it themselves. By showing your children healthy alternatives and by encouraging and funding new hobbies, you will at very least be giving the new generation a greater chance at health and well being.
