  17. Julie Cutshaw says:

My favorite holiday memory as a young child in the 60’s, was one Christmas eve night when my dad rode each of us girls piggyback to our beds lined up in rows. Then said listen for Rudolph to land on the roof tonight as hard as it maybe from the deep snow we are due to get. And we girls could see the coals from the wood stove burning & door left open to help draw air to keep it going, from our room and still whispering low how we hoped we heard him land. A few hours later we heard bells jingling. The next morning after we opened our gifts from Santa, we told mom & dad about the bells we heard. And dad said it was Santa landing with his sleigh. He had us to get dressed & go look outside, where in the snow covered driveway he showed us tracks that he said were Santa’s reindeer as they came in for landing in the driveway instead of the roof since the snow was so deep. He had taken a stick & poked holes in the snow separated down the driveway to be the reindeers paw prints which we learned later in life as we got older. But that Christmas & his efforts to make it magical for us three girls, is the special memory I have of my dad that I cherish still now at the old age of 53yrs.

Every thing seemed so glamorous: the beautiful 10 ft tree, the white gloved waiters and bartenders, the clattering of silver trays in the kitchen tucked behind the butler’s pantry. However, the part of the evening that I remember most fondly is riding home with my brother and sister in the back of the station wagon, surrounded by gifts to be opened the next day, and seeing the amazing Christmas light displays.
