& National Family Caregiver Month

November is National Family Caregiver Month which hits home with me. When I was growing up, my sister and I were raised by my mom, a single parent. She worked as a caregiver for the elderly. As far back as I can remember, and to this day, she has been a caregiver for the elderly. As rewarding as the job can be, being there taking care of someone night and day, it’s a hard job to do. I have seen my mom go through a lot of heartache while working with the elderly, because face it, she’s there because they can no longer do the normal day to day things that they were once able to do. Once my mom worked with an elderly patient, there came that sad day when they were not around anymore, and my mom would move along to the next elderly patient to take care of. I learned to care for a lot of the elderly people my mom would take care of while growing up because I got to go to work with her sometimes. Some of the elderly loved having me around, I always reminded them of their grandchildren, and great grandchildren, but then time would go on and it was just too much for me to handle. My mom didn’t bring me to her job site much any more for this reason. She still remained strong and continued to do what she loved, and that was being a caregiver to the elderly. has a great project going on right now.

Taking care of an older loved one means doing anything from handling their bills, to helping them with meals and driving them to appointments. It’s tough, juggling all of those roles. That’s why it’s our goal, with your help, to say thanks to as many caregivers as we can. If you know a caregiver, send them a thank-you today. – You can share a thankful message with a caregiver in your life and post it publicly with other messages from people across the country to bring awareness to all of the wonderful caregivers. It’s about time we appreciate something positive and thank our caregivers for everything that they do. We need to show them how much they are appreciated. They are so busy always caring for everyone else, so it’s time we showed them so love!

The AARP and the Ad Council have teamed up to provide platforms for all the caregivers, like my mom, to find some assistance. If you know a Caregiver, they can find a variety of resources online at AARP’s Caregiving Resource Center. It’s where caregivers can join in on a community for tips & tricks, to talk about caregiving, and much more.
Did you know across the country over 42 million people, primarily women between the ages 40 – 60 are faced with the challenge of providing care to their older family members and friends each and every day? That puts a lot of positions out there to be a caregiver. Make sure you visit above and make sure you spread the word about #ThanksProject.
