My best holiday memory would have to be my first Christmas spent with my fiance. We cuddled on the couch next to the fireplace and Christmas tree. The twinkling lights and the warmth of the fireplace combined with being in my fiance’s arms was intoxicating and something I’ll never forget.

  2. Traveling from the US to Italy to see my then boyfriend, now husband (after the doctor had forbidden me to fly due to a nasty case of pneumonia) and landing in NYC just to find out that my connecting flight was taking off from an entirely different NYC airport.

No shuttles running that night because it was Christmas day.

So I found an ATM, took out the maximum allowable amount and paid every bit of it to a cabbie that FLEW me across the city so that I arrived with all of 2 minutes to catch my connecting flight.

Did the O.J. run through the airport, hurtling small children as I ran, arrived just as they were closing the airplane door and somehow convinced them to let me on the plane.

    Ahhh… those were good times!

But I made it and that’s all that matters :+)

    True. Story.

Now, New Years Eve, partying ALL night in Venice with rampaging pneumonia – that’s a whole other story…

  3. My best holiday memory would be seeing the look in my step-son’s eyes and the look on his face when he opened his iPad a few years ago. Just being able to see happiness in a child’s eyes is the most amazing thing ever.

Most of the children had parents and would go home with them for a few days every Christmas. There were some kids that didn’t have parents so the staff would volunteer to take a child home. One child was scheduled to go home with his mother but she never showed up. At the last minute I volunteered to take the child to my parent’s house, My parents were hesitant when I showed up with this child, but when I told them that his mom didn’t show up, they were more than happy to have him with our family for Christmas. ๐Ÿ™‚ He was very happy to be with my family too; I’ll never forget that Christmas :))

  110. Cynthia P says:

My best “holiday” memory is the first year I decided NOT to celebrate Christmas . . . for many reasons. What a revelation that was! No stress about wondering what to buy for everyone, no selfishly writing a wish list for the family, no extra expense or time wasted in putting up silly decorations (& taking them down again a few weeks later), and no fighting the crowds in the shopping malls.

Since that changing day it’s such a joy to buy something for someone (any old time) because I know they will like it, or because I just feel like giving from the heart . . . and then to see one’s face light up because the gift was truly unexpected and just an honest outpouring of love.

As for celebrating the birth of Jesus, our savior and redeemer, that is something I make a point of doing every day. One does not need to follow the “traditions of man” to be a true worshiper of God and his Christ. (Matthew 15:6-9)
