Welcome to Everything Mommyhood’s Recaro Performance Car Seat Review & Giveaway!!!

RecaroReview1
Thanks so much to our co-host Frugal Fanatic, and of course Recaro for sponsoring this wonderful giveaway event for Everything Mommyhood’s 4 year Blogiversary! We have teamed up with a handful of bloggers to offer our readers a chance to win a Recaro Performance Sport Harness Booster Car Seat! We received the Recaro Performance Harness Booster in “Redd” for our review.

RecaroEvent

Here at Everything Mommyhood, if you’re a follower of our blog, you know how important car seat safety is to us, and how passionate we are about the safety of our children when using car seats. Please read our in depth Car Seat Tips post.

The very first thing, right off the bat that I love about this car seat is it’s made right here in the USA. It seems this is becoming less and less common, and I’d rather buy from a USA made company than overseas.

The Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat is a great fit for forward facing toddlers and young children. This is a forward facing seat and will harness children 20-90lbs with a height of 27 inches up to 50 inches tall. For a booster seat it will fit a child 30-120lbs and a height of 37 inches to 59 inches.
RecaroFactsThis seat has a lot of other great features!
-Comfort enhancing memory foam.
-Twist Resistant HERO technology.
-Racing inspired side impact protection.
-Easy adjust no re-thread harness.
-Enhanced cup holders.
-Quick flip recline mechanism.
I was really impressed with how easy the Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat was to install. I used the LATCH connectors and of course the top tether strap in the back to tighten down to the seat anchor point in the back. The seat doesn’t move at all, which it’s not supposed to. (If your seat moves more than 1 inch in any direction when pulled on, it’s not installed correctly.) To install with LATCH, connect the LATCH to your 2 anchor points in between the seat, and pull the LATCH belt to tighten, push some weight into the seat as you tighten for a tight install. You can also install with a seatbelt, but make sure you pull the seatbelt out all the way, and push down on the seat while you are pulling the seatbelt to tighten. (To find your top tether anchor, please reference your vehicle manual.)
Note: LATCH use must be discontinued at 52 lbs.

I like that the harness straps are padded at the shoulders, as well as where the crotch strap is located. This always makes for comfortable seating for my toddler with little to no complaining. The top straps won’t dig into her neck or leave marks. The padded crotch straps makes sure that when connecting the straps they won’t pinch your child, or if it’s hot out, it protects the heat of the buckle from touching the child. It’s always important to have your kids as comfortable as possible to make a safe driving environment for the parent.

recaroreview3
When you put your child in this comfortable car seat, remember to have the harness straps AT or ABOVE their shoulders since it’s a forward facing seat. Also remember the chest clip should ALWAYS be placed over their sternum at armpit level. It should never be on their neck or their belly. One last thing, remember the straps MUST be tight, as snug as a bug, there should be NO slack AND they should NOT be twisted. (See picture below)
With the Easy No Re-thread system of this car seat, it’s always easy to make sure the straps are located where they should be. Once the straps are Below the shoulders you need to move the straps up. If you reach the maximum height to where you can’t extend the car seat any taller, they have outgrown the harness and will need to use this seat as a Booster with a seatbelt.

recaroreview4
To use the easy no re-thread harness, to make the straps higher or lower, the seat must be uninstalled. You will then pull  on a handle then lift the bar into the spot where the straps fit your child best. Make sure you reinstall the car seat correctly, and use the top tether to anchor.

I like that the straps have white threading around them, this shows you that the straps aren’t twisted or messed up, and you can check it with a quick look.

recaroreview5

I also wanted to show my 5 year old in this seat too, with plenty of room to go. She can be harnessed in this seat until probably 6.5-7  years old.
She is 5 years old, 40lbs and 47″ tall.

Recaroreview6

I did not use the booster part of this car seat, but it’s easy enough to do. You can read about it in the manual, but all you need to do is remove the harness straps (easy enough and simple instructions are in the manual), then you will adjust the height of the back of where you need the seatbelt to lie on your child.

The Recaro Performance Harness Booster car seat is a great choice for your growing toddler, as this will last them for a very long time (It fits my 2 year old and my 5 year old). It’s also a great seat if you have a smaller vehicle, it’s a slim seat, so it doesn’t take up a lot of room.

You can purchase this seat for $299.99 at various retailers such as Buy Buy Baby, Amazon, Diapers.com, and more. Right now on Amazon you can get this seat for only $199.99!

Follow Recaro on Facebook and Twitter to keep up to date on car seat products, safety, and more.

  34. I would love to win this for my son. It looks so comfy and safe.

  35. I learned that the seat is slim. I did not know that! I have a small car, so it’ll be great. We’d love red.

  36. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I learned that the booster seat will fit a child 30-120 lbs and a height of 37 inches to 59 inches. I like the color redd.

  37. Susan Johnson says:

I absolutely adore my little 2 year old nephew, Christopher who I would love to take places, but I have been unable to afford a car seat for my car (I’m disabled). I don’t feel right buying a used one, especially since I don’t really know what I’m looking at, and my brother doesn’t have an extra because the grandparents are using it. This car seat is so nice! It would be perfect with the way it protects so well, with the twist free harness and straps and the side impact protection. I want the little guy to be comfortable, especially since he’s still in treatment til April for cancer. Once he’s done, he’ll be able to go anywhere, but I want him to be as comfortable as possible.

  38. Susan Johnson says:

I learned that it is made here in the USA (yay!). I also learned that both the shoulder and crotch harness straps are cushioned, so I don’t have to find something that fits around them to keep them from digging in, and they don’t twist, either. I learned that I can use this car seat for years because it fits kids up to 120 lbs.

  39. Susan Johnson says:

Oh, and I’d choose the Haze color, because the color will stay coolest in summer!

  40. I am about to be a first time mom! So this would eventually be for my sweet babe!

  41. I noticed it says the latch use must be discontinued at 52 lbs. I had just read the other day about not using both the latch and the belt at the same time but I don’t know why. I would choose the blue color.

  42. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I learned how easy the Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat is to install. It has the LATCH connectors and the top tether strap in the back to tighten down to the seat anchor point in the back I like the blue and red colors.

  43. Elizabeth Orozco says:

I wanted to get my daughter a Recaro car seat when we had to replace hers after a car accident we had been in, but unfortunately was way out of our budget to get. When looking into car seats it was the safest one that would last for a long time.

  44. dania cioffi says:

I would love this for my baby boy who will be outgrowing his infant seat very soon. I love that it is made right here in the USA and it looks very comfy and easy to install.

  45. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

This seat has Twist resistant HERO technology and I love both the blue and red colors

  46. I like that the straps don’t twist and that it can be used with or without the booster seat 🙂 I’d choose the red color 🙂

  47. I really like the padded crotch straps. When I park the car in a sunny spot, I won’t have to worry that the buckle will not touch any skin and burn my grandson.

  48. I would love to win this car seat because I am having another baby in April. We will need another car seat soon! It will be for our second child.

  49. I learned that you can use this car seat for a child weighing up to 120 pounds. That’s awesome! I would choose the pink one since I have a 2 year old daughter, and am having another girl in April.

  50. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I also like the padding at the shoulder straps and crotch strap. My favorite colors for this seat are the red and blue.

  51. Kathy Luman says:

I would like to win this for my grandson. Right now we have one car seat for him and with have to switch to my car or his dads car depending on who needs it.

  52. Kaleena Cabanag says:

I like the memory foam in it and also how comfortably it holds a 6 year old. I would love this seat for my 4 year old. I like the vibe color the best

  53. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

Not only is it wonderful how comfortable this seat is, it is also good to have memory foam. I like your explicit directions and I like the colors red or blue

  54. I would love to have this for the baby we are trying to have. I like that the fact that the straps are padded.

  55. I learned that Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat uses memory foam in their car seats. This would surely make the seat very comfortable for our kids.

  56. Sorry, I forgot to add that I would want the red carseat if I was blessed enough to win.

  57. Rebecca Parsons says:

I love the easy install of the car seat and also the safety of it. I think too that it is made in the USA is awesome because I am a huge fan of purchasing things made right here at home!

  58. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I like the Twist resistant HERO technology which makes it more comfortable and safer and I like the color red.

  59. courtney candlish says:

I like the pink one and love that it turns into a booster!

  60. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

Another feature I like is the quick flip recline mechanism. I like both the red an dblue colors.

  61. Christina Strapp says:

I learned that it is a comfortable car seat and has side impact protection. I like the rose color, but I don’t think that one is available to win so if not then I like the redd.

  62. Christina Strapp says:

I would like to win this car seat because I need a new seat for my daughter. Especially one that has a longer shell for extended rear facing.

  63. Would love to win this for baby #4 due in june, love all the safety features on this car seat, thank you for the chance

  64. Would love to win this – I love how high of weight limit the harness has! My 15 year old doesn’t even weigh 90 lbs yet! Love the racing inspired design and safety features.

  65. I’d love to win this for my son. He needs a harness booster that he can grow into.

  66. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I like that with the Easy No Re-thread system of this car seat, it’s always easy to make sure the straps are located where they should be. The only color I wouldn’t want is the dark pink.

  67. courtney candlish says:

    Love love love it!

  68. I love that it safely fits smaller kids! I need this seat ( :

  69. I would love to win this for my daughter. She is turning 4 soon and I know she really wants to just be in a booster and I think this would be a good compromise

  70. I want to win this for my toddler; her sister will be needing her car seat soon. She’d love a “big girl” car seat. And I love the high harness height!

  71. Just learned that it is made in the USA. Love! I’d choose Redd.

  72. Jessica Parent says:

It would be for my kindergartener whom is currently in an expired car seat because we haven’t been able to afford a new one

  73. Jessica Parent says:

Happy to learn its made here in the USA and I’m intrigued by the racing side impact technology. If I won I’d choose Vibe

  74. courtney candlish says:

Seems like such a great car seat! Would definitely love to have it:)

  75. If I won, I think I would want either blue or red. Because I didn’t know the term “chest clip”, I had no idea the clip was supposed to be up so high. Of course, I don’t own a car seat. I am the grandma, who occasionally drives the grandkids to the store or a restaurant with me. So I am glad I am now informed and will look for the height of the chest clip next time I am with my granddaughter. And I will make sure and tell my son and his wife who are expecting their first child, a boy. That is who would get the Recaro if I won.

  76. I’d be usin this seat for my 2yr old who will be needing a new one soon.

  77. I Love the twist resistance because it DRIVES me crazy when the harness straps get twisted & I fight with them until they are fixed. I’d like to have the blue

  78. I love the side impact protection and the straps; how easy they are and the white thread to show if they are twisted or not is brilliant! We are outfitting 4 cars for our granddaughters so this would come in handy as the baby’s seat is coming upon expiration and I could give this one to the older, giving the older’s seat to the baby. 🙂 I’d choose pink. ty!

  79. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I am very glad that with the LATCH connectors and the top tether strap in the back to tighten down the seat anchor point the seat will not move at all. I like the colors red and blue

  80. I’d love to win this car seat for my toddler since her little sister will be needing her current car seat very soon!

  81. I learned that the latch must be discontinued at 52 lbs! I think I like the pink one.

  82. I like the latch connections but with the new seats that are heavier + older kids being able to use seats now I think it’s great that they are now giving wt. restrictions to using said system. Hopefully they are making it very clear on the seat or something tho’ otherwise people will not realize and latch anyway. I mean there are TONS of people out there who don’t even realize that carseats expire at all. My granddaughter would love the pink. ty!

  83. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I learned that if you don’t want to use LATCH you can also install with a seatbelt, but you must pull the seatbelt out all the way, and push down on the seat while you are pulling the seatbelt to tighten. I still like both the red and blue colors

  84. I would like to win because I am tired of switching seats from one car to another, and it would be for my grandson. Probably followed later by his sister, since he would likely be out of it by that time.

  85. I’d like to win this carseat cause it has some neat features. It would be for my toddler who’s ready to go forward-facing, plus his new sister will need his carseat soon.

  86. Dorothy Boucher says:

this seat looks really comfy and I really like that the straps are thicker than most and wider
love the color vibe 🙂 thanks @tisonlyme143

This is such a great multifunction car seat and would b great to win!

  91. Brittany Cornejo says:

I need this for my daughter. She is almost two and will be ready for forward facing! So glad these are so safe.

  95. Elizabeth Johnston says:

I would LOVE to have this car seat for my Miles! He just turned 3 and is growing so fast… It would be wonderful to never have to worry about buying another car seat again. I appreciate that Recaros are made in the U.S. and are so highly recommended. The buckle guard that protects the hot buckle from touching their skin would come in super handy during our hot Southern summers. 🙂

  112. I would love a recaro for my son.
I was wondering does the weight limit for the latch system include the weight of the car seat and the child or the child’s weight?

  113. Nicole Jarski says:

I LOVE Recaro because I feel they are incredibly safe!!! I would love to win a seat because with all of my children and daycare kiddos, I’m always in need of seats.

  114. I love Recaro. we have one for our oldest and she is super tall for her age. This seat will last her a ling time. I love the ssafety ratings and the breathable fabric. We desperately need another one for our youngest. This is the only carseat brand we will ever buy.

  115. oh, and I like the purple (Riley?)

  116. Nicole Jarski says:

I like that she included the max weight for the Latch…which is 52lbs. I still have a young kiddo in the seat, but that was good to know in case I have older ones use it this summer.

    Color Choice: Knight

  117. This would be a great seat for my daughter! She’s almost outgrown her RF seat at almost 3 and we LOVe the Recaro brand!

  118. I’ve been looking for the safest most comfortable car seat / booster seat and this seems to be it. Thanks for the review!

  119. I Love that the MAX LATCH weight was mentioned! You never see that! I would love the Rose, but it seems thats not an option, so either Haze or Knight 🙂

  120. Jeanie Payne says:

I would use it for my five year old. His seats are expiring and he still needs to be harnessed.

  123. I love how Recaro seats are so safe and dependable. I have a child in the Recaro convertible seat now who needs to move up since younger sister is almost ready to outgrow her infant seat and take the convertible seat.

  124. My granddaughter would like the padded straps and I’m sure she’d love a cupholder that actually works. In the carseats she’s been in before they have always fallen off or are just unusable. She’d love pink. ty!

  125. Tabitha Johnson says:

I learned that it’s a forward facing seat only, and I would like the black one!

  126. Alene Nielsen says:

I want to win this for my daughter. I love all the safety features.

  127. Love that it’s made in the USA!!! Also has great adjustability to accommadate weight and height. Would choose the blue for my friend since she just had a Son.

  128. cindy jones says:

My son is big for his age..so this is a great seat for him…the high shoulder straps and the higher weight limits are just right for him…I really like this car seat,I would pick marine color…

  129. I learned that while this might look like a convertible carseat, you can only use it front facing. It’s not a convertible carseat. But it would be perfect for my 6 yo granddaughter. She would like pink. Good luck everyone!

  130. I would love to win this car seat for my son. I love all the features it has.

  131. I learned that it has side impact protection that is inspired by racing! Very cool =) I would pick the Vibe one.

  132. Jo-Ann Brightman says:

I like that the padded crotch straps makes sure they won’t pinch your child, or if it’s hot out, they protect the heat of the buckle from touching the child. I still like the red and blue colors the most

  133. Awesome car seat!

I think this seat has superior side impact protection than others. Great features!

  135. Lorayne Gothard says:

After reading the review, I really like that it is made in the US and not in a foreign country. I also like that the crotch strap is passes, which is smart since it is so easy to pinch them. I would pick the pink one if I won!!

  136. Dawn Monzu says:

Thank you for reviewing this! I absolutely love that it is made in the good ole USA! My granddaughter is getting bigger now, and I would love to have one of these in my car so I could take her places with me. She would love the cup holders! Also, I love all of the colors, but I’m thinking I like the marine color. Thank you!

  137. Ashley Avelar says:

I learned how important it is to make sure your child’s measurements are right along with the recommendations of the car seat. We don’t want to risk their safety by having the seat too big for the child or because they are not positioned correctly in the seat for the belts to fit right.

  138. Christina Strapp says:

I love that it has side impact protection which is really important to me. I also like that it has a tall shell for extended rear facing. I would pick the rose color for my daughter.

  139. Valerie Guerrero says:

i want to win this for my son he needs one already his is old

  140. I love all the safety features in this car seat but my favorite is the side impact protection. I would choose the color red.

  141. Valerie Guerrero says:

learned how easily the straps adjust

  142. amy clayton says:

Would love this for my son. He is almost to big for his radian

  143. I want to win this car seat because it looks very nice! It would be for my friend.

  144. I learned that this car seat is made in the USA.

  145. Pamela Bice says:

I like the twist resistance and the fact it’s made in the US. I think I’d choose either the blue or black.

  146. Hoping I won this miss mine someone decided they wanted it more from my car some people…

  147. I like the memory foam in it and also how comfortably it holds a 6 year old. I would love this seat for my 4 year old. I like the vibe color the best
