Potty Training Tips & $150 Babies R Us and Pampers Wipes Giveaway – ends 7/15 #MilestoneMoments

Our 2.5 year old is on the verge of being potty trained, so I wanted to take a minute and tell you some of my BEST potty training tips. I have two girls, and I have already experienced potty training with my first so I almost feel like an expert on the topic. I pushed my first daughter and it made it into a long dragged out process, which is not what I wanted. Finally after 8 months of going back and forth with potty training my first, I knew I would be much more relaxed with my second.

1. Don’t Push Them– I know some people who think 18 months, or 24 months or 30 months is the magic number to start potty training. Let me tell you, there is NO magic number. WAIT until they start showing signs. Wait until they can hold it, and go on the potty.

2. Introduce the Potty Early– Have a potty in your house from the time they learn to walk. Let them get acquainted with it and used to it being around. I find letting them sit on it naked every night before bath, or whenever you use the bathroom is a good time to let them see how it is. Don’t enforce anything, just let them sit there, or play or whatever they want to do. Let them be curious.

3. Slowly Ease Into It– If they are showing signs, slowly ease into it. Encourage them to go in the mornings after they get up, before nap time, after nap time, before bath/bed. Praise them if they go, if they don’t, then so be it. Just be easy and slow about it. It WILL come to them. Give it time.

4. 3 Day Method– IF your child is ready and is showing lots of signs and can communicate and hold his/her bathroom functions, take 3 days of staying at home to concentrate on potty training and nothing else. Give LOTS to drink, and have a couple pottys out. We usually have one in each bathroom, so bring one into your living room and one into the bathroom. Have them close by, and make it fun! DON’T push, just let it be casual and reward them! PAY ATTENTION to their cues. Keep an eye on the time and head to the bathroom every 30-45 minutes or so.

5. Undies or Be Naked– For daytime training, put them in undies or let them be naked. Don’t put anything on them that resembles a diaper. This will just allow them to go in their pants like normal. They need to feel the wetness/yuckiness of relieving themselves. With just undies or being naked, this will help better in the process of potty training.

Those are my BEST potty training tips, and I really really recommend trying them out. As a first time mom you may think some of them sound crazy, but believe me, I wish I would have read this post before I started pushing my first daughter into trying to potty train! Potty training is in full swing for our second daughter now, and she’s doing really well with it. That is our Milestone Moment we are working on here at Everything Mommyhood.

Now chances are if you’re reading this your baby/toddler is still in diapers, and that’s where my favorite diaper comes in. Pampers Swaddlers! Pampers Swaddlers are available up to size 5, and you can purchase them at BabiesRUs! I LOVE how they sell them in big packs too. It’s easy to just grab a box and go!

Pampers Swaddlers offers a lot of great features that aren’t available in other diapers!

·         With up to 12 hours of overnight protection, Swaddlers help you make your baby as comfortable as possible

If you haven’t used Pampers Swaddlers, I highly recommend doing so. They are SO soft to the touch and feel great on your baby’s bottom. Pampers Swaddlers is their softest diaper yet and the #1 choice among hospitals. They are available up to size 5 at BabiesRUs, their knowledgeable experts can help you choose the perfect fit for your little one. I know you wouldn’t be disappointed using Pampers Swaddlers on your infant or toddler. I started out using Pampers Swaddlers in the hospital when my babies were newborns.
