5 Activities To Do With Your Kids – Week One

5Activities

Winter is upon us and where I live, there’s snow on the ground and although the weather is actually not that cold and bitter, we’re mostly staying indoors. Being a stay at home mom, I’m with the kiddies all day long and always looking for new things to do with them! Here’s the first in a series of suggestions from one mom to another, for activities that you can do with your kids!

1. Create your favorite characters, like those from Frozen, out of modeling clay or dough.

2. Paint with dry fruits and veggies! For instance, cut up broccoli and let a sliced apple dry up. The shapes they make are lovely and it’s a great opportunity to teach words, colors, shapes, etc.!

3. Build a snowman! If you don’t have snow, try building a sandman at a local beach! My kids love doing both. Use whatever accessories you have on hand and change it up! Give him a funky hat or use a fat marker to draw some eyelashes on her!

4. Bake cookies. My kids are absolutely in love with the baking process and obviously with the goodies that result. Use a cookie cutter and cut out fun shapes, then drizzle chocolate, sprinkles, coconut flakes, or anything their little hearts desire! Be sure to let them help you with the clean-up process too. It helps to give them specific jobs they can focus on, like mixing the batter and wiping the excess sugar off the counter!

5. Make up learning games. For younger children, create/get flash cards with the one letter of the alphabet on each card. For older children, use sight words. Give points for each time they guess the letter/word correctly and when they get to 15, they get a prize!
