First Day of Summer! Head to your local playground! #SummertimePlay

This post is sponsored by Voice of Play. All opinions are those of our own.

Today is the first day of summer (and Father’s Day) so today is a great day to head out to your local park or playground and get your kids out to play! Playing outside and away from technology is so very important for our children. Not only is it important for our children, but it’s important for you too! It’s a great and easy way to be active!

Playground

Televisions, computers and cell phones will taunt them to stay indoors, which is why International Play Equipment Manufacturers Association (IPEMA) and the Voice of Play want to promote activities and ideas that get kids – and parents – outside.  What better way to do this than by celebrating the beginning of summer with a trip to the local playground? We headed over to our local community playground right here in our neighborhood. My girls just love playing outside and my husband and I like conversing with other Moms and Dads.

The Voice of Play is an education and advocacy initiative of the non-profit membership association, IPEMA, formed to educate and promote the benefits of children’s free outdoor play and playgrounds.  Through the Voice of Play website and social media properties, IPEMA highlights the scientifically proven physical, social, emotional and cognitive benefits of play.

Whether you’re looking to burn off some of those calories yourself, have some adult conversation with other moms and dads, or spend time and make memories with your children, heading to your local community playground is a great way to do it. Put those smartphones, tablets, and laptops away and enjoy a technology free day while playing with your children.

One of our favorite things to do is to pack up a picnic lunch or a mid-afternoon snack and head to the local playground and just have a good time! We even bring a ball to kick around, and just have a good time. There’s nothing better than making memories with your children that will last a life time.

Celebrate today, the first day of summer, and father’s day, by heading to your local community playground.

How often do you visit your local playground?

  1. looks like fun, to bad we cant do play ground during the summer, its been 115 all week, the low is the high 80s!

  2. Linda Manns Linneman says:

My grandkids love going to the playground. They get to play with other kids and burn off some energy. Thank you so much for sharing

  3. The playground is fun for the kids but remember to be aware of the people that live nearby.Unfortunately, we live right across from a church with a playground. The kids scream and make so much noise. I can hear them in my house with the doors closed and air running. It drives me crazy!

  4. M.Clark says:

I don’t have any children so I don’t go to the playground, but if I did I would definitely take them to the playground. Growing up we were not allowed to play outside, the only time we got to go outside was when we went to school. I would definitely raise my children with outside play.

  5. Cindy S. says:

So happy summer is here! My kids DO need to get outside more !

  6. Thanks so much for the Wonderful Review on First Day of Summer! Head to your local playground! This is a wonderful way to spend the day! We love taking walks to the local swing set not far from here, however, we’ve been too busy running around this past week with visiting my father in the intensive care unit at Jefferson Hospital in Philadelphia. It generally is a 1 hour drive, however, traffic has been so bad it’s been taking 1 1/2 to 2 hours to get there every day! I would love for my father not to have fallen from the ladder and now paralyzed, and would much rather be outside with the kids! Unfortunately, things happen and you can’t do what you would like and do what you have to do! Thanks so much for sharing your wonderful review, the pictures of your beautiful daughters and your personal and professional opinions on First Day of Summer! Head to your local playground with all of us! I always appreciate your Reviews!!!!!!! Thanks again! Michele 🙂

  7. I try to go with the kids once a week to the local playground. I need to invent something new in between since they get bored easily. Swimming, crafting, picnic, and outdoor grilling are what they’re into the most.

  8. Deborah D says:

I think that kids need to let go of technology in the summer.

  9. melanie smith says:

Two of my boys go to football practice. That gives me a chance twice a week to also take my other kids to the park as well. Well at least if the storms stay away long enough for them to actually practice. Its been pretty stormy here in Jacksonville the past few weeks. At least one or two storms a day, at the wrong times lol.

  10. We’ve had so much rain here, we haven’t been able to do anything this summer so far.

  11. This is such a fun idea. My grandchildren love going to our neighborhood park to play with all their friends. It is such a great time for them. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a great summer
