Why I Donate to Goodwill. Donate Stuff. Create Jobs.

If you missed the boat of Spring Cleaning, it’s not too late to start an end of Spring cleaning (yes I just made that up)! My family is actually getting ready to move and I’ve been purging and cleaning out all of our clothing, knick-knacks, kitchen items, toys, shoes, and books, to donate to the Goodwill. Think about it, when is the last time you cleared the clutter from your home and garage? Now is the time to do so.

I try to go through every few months and declutter my wardrobe or the kids closets. I think it’s so important to not only keep our home nice and tidy, but to give back to the community as well. You might think that donating to Goodwill is just that, but it creates so much more than just donating.

Thanks to the job training programs made possible by donations of clothes and household items, more than 318,000 people earned jobs in 2014 – that’s one person finding a job every 23 seconds of every business day. So you’re literally donating your stuff AND helping to create jobs. Isn’t that just amazing?!? I bet you didn’t even know that donating your items that are no longer needed actually impacted your community in a good way.
You can even calculate how much your donation helps your local community by using Goodwill’s Donation Impact Calculator. Simply input the items you’re donating to calculate the number of hours of career counseling, on-the-job training, financial education, résumé preparation and other services you’ve helped provide. The numbers will give you a good look at what YOU can do for your community.
Not to mention, when you donate, it’s a tax write-off as well, so it’s just a win win situation all around for everyone involved.

Find your nearest donation center by heading over to Goodwill.org.
Do a good thing and donate to Goodwill.

When’s the last time you donated to Goodwill?

  1. We have locked drop boxes for shoes and clothing at just about every grocery store parking lot in the area. I’m not sure, but I think it’s goodwill.

I don’t think I’ve ever donated to Goodwill, I’ve donated to Big Brother and the local public library, but never Goodwill. It’s always nice to donate to a good cause.

  4. Cindy S. says:

There are so many options when it comes to donations. It is nice to know more about Goodwill and what they offer the community.

  5. sheila ressel says:

We have donated to Goodwill for many years. It makes us feel good to be able to help in any way we can to those in need.

  6. I never really thought about where the money goes from donated items. I usually donate to unclutter my house and not feel guilty for throwing good things away. Its nice to know that Goodwill is using the money for a great program

  7. We donate to Goodwill at least twice a year. I just cleaned out the closets and took five bags of clothes and shoes. It really feels good when I do this because I know I’m helping 🙂

  8. Thanks for the Fantastic Review on Why I Donate to Goodwill. Donate Stuff. Create Jobs. I generally donate to Goodwill a lot, however, lately I’ve been slacking off with decluttering my home and haven’t donated in a while! I think it’s a terrific thing for everyone to do! If you have clothes which you have not worn in 6 months to a year, it’s time to get rid of them. If there are old toys that your children have outgrown, it’s time to get rid of them as well! I love that when you donate to Goodwill, it helps create jobs! It’s such a wonderful feeling knowing that you are “giving back” just by dropping off the items you no longer use at a Goodwill store! Thanks so much for sharing your fantastic review and your personal and professional opinions on Why I Donate to Goodwill. Donate Stuff. Create Jobs. with all of us! I always do appreciate your reviews!!!!!! Thanks Again! Michele 🙂

I love Goodwill! We have a nice one very close to my house. I donate often and love to walk through there looking for treasures.

  11. I donate items as long as they are in good condition and laundered first. Sometimes you can find some decent things there.

  12. Edna Williams says:

We love to donate to the Goodwill! Thanks for the post!
