Florida Prepaid 529 Savings Plan and a $529 Giveaway #StartingIsBelieving

This is a sponsored post. All thoughts and opinions are those of our own.

I grew up in the Tampa Bay area of Florida and went to school Kindergarten through College. Unfortunately for me, my mom (who was a single mom) never set up any kind of savings account or a college savings plan for me for college. I remember always getting the flyers and pamphlets back in school for the Florida Prepaid College Plan, and knowing now how much college debt I’m still paying for, I wish she would have paid more attention to this amazing plan. So for you, I’m trying to spread the word and educate more about the Florida Prepaid 529 Savings Plan in case you just don’t know about it, or are looking for more information. I struggled working through college, and taking out loan after loan. I applied for grants and scholarships and I did receive a few here and there, but I still racked up quite a bit of debt that I wish I hadn’t. Now being in my 30’s I’m still paying on it.

A higher education should be able to be attained without going into debt, and the Florida 529 Savings Plan can at least help relieve some of that. I highly recommend you look into it for your child, or if you’re reading this and you’re a middle school or high school student, let your parents know about this great program.

The Florida 529 Savings Plan can be started at anytime during your child’s lifetime and only requires a $25 initial deposit to open. Even if you can’t save for your child’s entire college education, starting something to save is always better than doing nothing. The funds in a Florida 529 Savings Plan can be used for any qualified higher educational expense, including tuition, room & board, textbooks, graduate school and much more. This gives you extreme flexibility to use the funds as you see fit, for whatever your child may need. And should those needs change during his/her college years, individuals are free to adjust as well.

  1. This is the first I’ve heard of it. Many parents (single or not) don’t have enough income to be able to save, anyway. Mine didn’t, and I worked three jobs simultaneously while in college. It is good to have a program like this, it is better than just saving money in the bank, etc. for parents who can save anything at all.
