My Rx Profile – It Could Save Your Life #myRXProfile

Cold and flu season is hot on our heels. Being a mom to two beautiful girls means I don’t have a lot of time to be sick. And if you are like most moms, you sometimes tend to put your own health aside because you are busying your mind with the worry of your kids. And I will be the first to tell you that taking care if YOU is one of the most important things you can do for you and for your family, but I also understand how it can be difficult. Especially during cold and flu season. Because, if the kids are sick, and you are sick, your mind is likely focused on them. With a busy mind and so much going on, on top of being sick yourself, you must be very cautious about the medications you are taking and giving to your kids to get rid of fever and other cold and flu symptoms.

It is all too easy to take some Tylenol for a fever and then not long after head to the medicine cabinet for some Nyquil because you NEED your sleep, and while you are there, you also grab the prescription that your doctor put you on. And you think, this is probably okay, right? But, did you know that there are over 600 prescription medications that contain acetaminophen? Which means you could be giving yourself a double dose of acetaminophen without even realizing it. THAT is a scary fact.

Even something as simple as a child taking a cold medication mixed with a pain medication like Tylenol could cause a bad reaction.

Thinking about all of this can be so stressful for a parent! But, this new app has made it a cinch for anyone who takes any type of medication, prescription and over-the-counter. MyRxProfile is an app that can easily help people manage over the counter and prescription medications and interactions with other medications by checking drug information and interactions with simple or typing your Rx prescription information into the app.

MyRxProfile allows you to email your profile directly to your doctor too. Most of us don’t leave the house without our smart phones, so having an app like this can be a lifesaver for doctor appointments, medical emergencies, or even just every day medication needs.

According to FDA there are more than 100,000 deaths due to adverse drug reactions and the annual cost of adverse drug reactions is $136 Billion dollars. What is even scarier than that?  50% of the 4.4 billion prescription medications that are dispensed in the United States are not taken correctly by patients. That is really mind blowing if you think about it. How many medications do you take a day? Most of us probably only take one or two, if that. But many people, especially those of us who have aging parents that go through a myriad of health issues, or children who go through even the normal yearly sickness, must deal with lists of medications and the stress and worry of what could go wrong.

The MyRxProfile app allows me to save multiple profiles at once, so I can not only keep up with my own medications if I am taking them, but also my children’s medications if I need to help them through cold season, hospital visits, surgeries, or other types of treatments. And for those of us who don’t take much on a regular basis, but might take something or have children who take something for pain like Tylenol, there is a new feature that alerts you if you are combining “like” ingredients, such as acetaminophen. Now, you do not have to worry about taking that next dose of Tylenol or cold medicine.

The MyRxProfile app is simple and easy to use. You can check for drug interactions with a simple swipe of your phone. No parent should have to second guess whether or not the medication they are giving their child is safe at that moment. MyRxProfile has taken out the guess work – and it could save your life®!

MyRxProfile is a FREE app! Available on iOS and Android. For more information on MyRxProfile, visit, Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook.
