From Gladiator Flats to Accessories: 6 Tips Teenage Girls Must Know

If there’s a time when you get to experiment with style, it’s got to be your teenage years. This is the moment when you learn something more about yourself – your likes, your dreams and your taste in fashion. Are you a sneakers or high heels kind of girl? Do you prefer gladiator flats or flip-flops on the beach? Do you like your hair long or would you prefer a pixie cut? Whatever your style is, try to fit in first while keeping these tips in mind.

1. Know what looks good on you.
Think of what people say about your look. Do you get compliments for your long legs when you wear shorts? Do your friends think you have a great bum when you wear skinny jeans? Or does your boyfriend tell you that you look lovely in heels? Remember what looks good and you and play around with that idea. If you’re a shorts kind of girl, think of ways on how you can keep reinventing your style. Do you like it feminine or a bit sporty? For a feminine outfit, pair your shorts with either a long sleeved or short sleeved chiffon top and a pair of cute gladiator flats with colors that are in this season.

gladiator2. Make a basic statement.
When you’re in school, you can’t wear just about anything because of school rules. But if you have basic apparel with a statement, your style won’t be hard to miss. Take this basic white sweater with a GENIUS statement with you in class. Wear it to get noticed in school or when you just feel lounging at home during a lazy weekend.

A lot of much older women pay a lot to look young so while you’re really on that age, make it to a point to wear makeup appropriately. For a girl who’s still in school, red lipstick and smokey eyes shouldn’t be your go-to everyday makeup. Keep yourself satisfied in lip glosses, tinted balms and clear mascara. Go for light pinks, peaches and nudes.

4. Play with your hair.
Your complete ensemble for the day can start with how you style your hair. Do you want it in a high pony or a low bun? Do you want it sleek and straight or bouncy and curly? You have every single day to fix your hair depending on the latest hairstyle. To accentuate your waves and side swept bangs, dress your hair up with this Snake Chain Headband that will look pretty and elegant on you.

5. Enjoy wearing sneakers.
For the most part of the week, you need a comfortable pair of shoes that can easily bring you from one class to another while you’re carrying loads of books. Not only will you be comfy but cool and chic as well. Wear a pair of black Patent Lace Up Wedge Sneakers with pink and yellow accents and a low heel support.

6. Find out how to accessorize.
Whether it’s a simple fedora, a beaded necklace, an oversized watch or a printed scarf, it’s always a great idea to start accessorizing from head to toe. Make it colorful, too! At your age, it’s not a crime to wear a plain neon top and a waterfall tribal necklace over a denim skirt and a pair of studded sneakers.

Have fun on your teenage years and don’t be afraid to experiment with fashion! Get all your stylish clothes, shoes and accessories at www.makemechic.com.

I've got a granddaughter who's 12 and these tips are great examples of how to be you own individual self. It's so important to remind them that they don't need to just be one of the herd but to develop their own sense of self. And also that you can do it subtly. This is a great conversation starter that I'll use with my granddaughter. Thanks Darci.
