Destination Weddings

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Beaches. All thoughts and opinions are those of our own.

If you follow along on social media, you will find out that I got engaged last month while on vacation. I have been looking into wedding locations as well as places for honeymoons as well as destination weddings.

For some people, weddings are a huge, elaborate party and celebration, while others just want a small, intimate ceremony with the people closest to them. For the second type of people, destination weddings can be the perfect wedding experience.

If you choose to have a destination wedding, there are many aspects that go into planning and hosting a wedding in a new location. Being well prepared for what to expect when it comes to your own wedding is incredibly valuable and important, so there are a few things you should know when it comes to destination weddings, just don’t turn into a bridezilla!

Location

The location of your wedding determines a lot of things, such as your theme, budget, invite list, and so many other little details. Pick a location that suits you and your new to be spouse, and all of the little things, or people, that you want to be apart of your special day. The wedding location should accommodate every want and need you have.

Destination weddings can be pricey, but there really is an inexpensive route, you just have to do your research.

Typically, it is believed that destination weddings are much more expensive than local weddings, but if you plan correctly, you really can end up saving money.

Book a block of rooms for your guests and have them pay for the amount of people that will be attending in their party. If the people you want to invite will be able to easily afford their transportation and hotel costs, that is one less thing you have to worry about.

Also, you and your spouse to be could skip the normal honeymoon costs, and just stay where your wedding is for your honeymoon. A big bonus is that beautiful destinations can significantly reduce a lot of your decoration costs.

Important tip: Send the “save the date” earlier than you would for a local wedding.

Wedding guests need a decent amount of time to prepare for a destination wedding, due to the number of things that need to be planned out.
Hotel arrangements need to be made ahead of time, as do airline tickets if a flight is needed to get to the destination. Giving the guests a heads up of the wedding early on ensures that more people will be able to attend your wedding.

Visit the location before your wedding

Just like everything else, you never know when something will actually look like what it looks like in pictures. The location could still be beautiful, but not wedding friendly. Or it could be very dirty and make the wedding pictures come out less than beautiful.

Chances are, your venue will be perfectly fine, but you never want to risk something that could ruin your special day.

Gifts

If your guests are spending a load of money on making it to your wedding, try to enforce your guests to not bring gifts, especially expensive ones. Often, their presence is their gift, and perhaps a card and something small, but it typically will not be something worth hundreds of dollars.

Packing

Unlike local weddings, with destination weddings, if you forget your makeup bag or hair pieces there is no turning around to get them. It is better to have too much and not need any of it, than to need something and not have it in this case. When you are packing your bags, do not be afraid to pack everything you think you could possibly need, and extras of anything of extreme importance.

Weather

When choosing clothing, hairstyles, and anything else that could be deemed as uncomfortable in certain climates, make sure that what you choose suits the weather. Being too hot or, contrary, being too cold can make your day miserable, so prepare for the weather accordingly.

Photographer

In months, years, and decades into the future, when you and your special other are trying to remember the day you tied the knot, pictures will be the only things left that genuinely documented you in the moment.

Just like any other wedding, you want your pictures to be the best they can be. Plus, the beautiful background that will be in every single one of your photos should be documented by the best photographer.

Stress

With every wedding comes stress, but try not to make the fact that you are traveling add to your list of stressors. Your wedding is supposed to be one of the most fun days of your life, so do not worry about who is and isn’t coming.
Everything will work out perfectly, even if it isn’t perfect. As long as you are with the people you love in a place you love and hold close to your heart, your day will be the absolute best.

Destination weddings are some of the most fun weddings out there, and having your own can be especially exciting. Follow the basic rules of having a destination wedding and know what to expect, and you will be able to have the best time of your life.

Where did you get married? Or if you’re planning a wedding, where are you planning on having it?
