I never tasted jerky prior to my husband making his own handmade venison jerky. As most of my readers know, I am trying to eat foods without added preservatives. When Golden Island Jerky asked me to do a review for my readers and I researched them, I learned they are a company who follows this principal. After being in business for over 50 years, Golden Island Jerky knows how to make some good jerky! Mmmm sounds so good right???
I was sent a 6 pack of assorted flavors — Hickory Black Pepper, Chili Lime, Grilled Barbecue, Teriyaki, Korean Barbecue & Mandarin Orange. Some were beef, some were pork. Some were flame-grilled and some were kettle-cooked.
Golden Island Jerky doesn’t need to add preservatives to their jerky. Why? Because it is full of flavor using US grown beef and pork and all-natural ingredients. Each piece of beef or pork is cooked slowly in small batches to ensure all of the flavor is preserved in the process. Golden Island Jerky does not contain any nitrates, fillers or added MSG. Which is great news!
Check out how awesome each piece of jerky looks. Have you ever seen jerky that looks like this?
Each bag when opened emits such a delicious smell. The Jerky was not chewy and it had a great texture & taste to it. The only downside of the flavors we tasted was that they were slightly too sugary. The Flame Grilled BBQ reminded us of a Hawaiian Luau and the Chili Lime tasted like fajitas! My husband was partial to the Chili Lime and was very sad when he finished the bag. Maybe I’ll have to get him some more as part of his Father’s Day gift.
Chester, our dog, LOVES jerky! Too bad we weren’t sharing this time!
