My Tot Clock Review

mytotclocklogoI recently had the chance to work with My Tot Clock to review this great product. I have suggested this product to friends before, but never have actually used it myself until now. I have a 5 year old who sometimes gets up WAY too early, or tries to stay up WAY too late and this product is GREAT to help little ones to tell what time it is.

“My Tot Clock is the first all-in-one sleep clock, alarm clock, nightlight, timeout timer, and activity timer for tiny tots who can’t yet tell time. The magic of My Tot Clock is that it changes color to teach little ones when it is time to sleep (blue light) and when it’s okay to get out of bed (yellow light). Parents set the routine! My Tot Clock, with its child-friendly analog clock display, also plays bedtime stories, lullabies, fun wake-up music, and even white noise to make the traditionally stressful bedtime and morning routines more enjoyable. No more negotiating before bedtime! My Tot Clock also includes a light blue light for nap time or quiet play time, a red light for timeout, and a green light for any positive timed activity like potty training and picking up toys. Managing important tot time has never been easier!”

When I received the My Tot Clock, I thought it was the greatest thing and couldn’t wait to get it set up. It comes with a night sky face plate, a cartridge that stores songs for your child, as well as an AC adapter. I like that this doesn’t need batteries (although you can use them) and it’s easy to set up. The first step I did was to set the time for the front of the clock and the back of the clock. Next, I set up bedtime for 8pm, wake up time for 8am, and “quiet time” for 2.5 hours. At bedtime the clock automatically turns to a blue face light, and plays some music, which my daughter loves. In the morning at 8am the face turns to yellow to indicate that it’s daytime.

There are also buttons on the top where you can manually tell the clock to start bedtime, daytime, a timeout, playtime, or nap time. You also set on the clock how long a time out should be, which I do 10 minutes for my 5 year old. I really like this clock for this specific reason the best. If my 5 year old is acting up, I tell her she needs a 10 minute timeout to think about it, and come out in a better mood. She gets sent to her room and I just press the red button on the top of the clock. The face of the clock then turns red and stays that way for 10 minutes. Once the 10 minutes is up, my daughter then knows it’s okay to come on out. Now I don’t have to hear her yelling at me every 30 seconds asking if her time out is over with. This is the same concept for playtime, naptime, and bedtime as well.

I do like the playtime or the green button as well. If I myself need a timeout from my kids, I tell my daughter she needs to go play in her room for a bit to give me a break. I have her playtime button set for 15 minutes. I will go in and press the green button and this will put a green clock face up for the 15 minute time period. This feature is really great as well, since it allows her to play alone for a bit, and to give Mommy a much needed break for a little bit too (you know when they won’t stop talking or making noise). She knows that she’s not in trouble, it’s just a little playtime break.

Now I am lucky when it comes to bed time. Both of my girls love their sleep and don’t really have any problems about going to bed or getting up early. They both (my 2 year old and 5 year old) have always slept great and about 12-14 hours a night, almost every night. If they didn’t The Tot Clock would be great for this too. I would easily be able to teach them that they do not get out of bed in the morning until the front of the clock showed yellow for day time. I always hear horror stories from some of my friends on how their children have gotten up for the day at 5:30am, and I have always recommended The Tot Clock to them, although I had never actually tried it until now.
