Why Does Your Body Not Respond to Medication Correctly?

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Bloggin’ Mamas for PanaceaPGX.

A few months back I had the opportunity to work with PanaceaPGX, I’m sure with just the name you’re intrigued to know what it is. PanaceaPGX offers a pharmacogenetic test, to study how your genes affect your body’s response to medication. Yes, this is actually very very important. I’m going to tell you why and how simple the test really was.

Sometimes you’ll receive a prescription from your doctor and you’ll fill it and take it, and you’ll have adverse side effects from it. Maybe it doesn’t work, maybe it’s too “strong” feeling. There could be a 100 different things, and you realize that specific drug isn’t right for you. For instance, for me I was prescribed certain opioids in the past, for surgery like a cesarean section, and I noticed they just didn’t last long enough. I even had a few talks with my physician at the time, and in all reality, I think I looked like I was seeking out more drugs. It really wasn’t the case. I’d then be prescribed something else, and so on. When it comes down to it, my body personally does not metabolize opioids correctly, so they just don’t last long in my system. When I received my test results back, I had a TON of a-ha moments that just explained so much on why certain drugs didn’t react well with me.

When you sign up for the PanaceaPGX pharmacogenetic test, you take a little questionnaire. They just want to make sure you’re a good candidate for pharmacogenetic testing. If one or more of the following criteria applies to your medical management, then you should consider pharmacogenetic testing:

  • Uses two or more prescribed medications
  • Has had adverse drug related reactions (ADR)
  • Doesn’t feel their medication is working effectively
  • Concerned about making a change in medication
  • Candidate for Antiplatelet, Anticoagulant, Statin Rx
  • ACS-PCI, Warfarin initiation, Simvastatin/ Atorvastatin Rx
  • Unstable INR, bleeding, thrombotic event, muscle weakness
  • Effient, Brilinta, Pradaxa, Xarelto Rx
  • Has a history of heart attack or stent replacement
  • Candidate for Opioid Rx
  • Opioid ADR, sub-optimal response, high dose requirement
  • Side effects to NSAIDs, muscle relaxers, triptans, considering switch to patch
  • Abnormal opioid UDT Experiences chronic pain
  • Candidate for Psychotropic Rx
  • Dx Depression, Treatment Resistant Depression, psychosis Psychotropic ADR or sub optimal response
  • More than 1 psychotropic Rx
  • Treatment resistant, uncontrolled, hospital admission in past 6 months
  • Is depressed or has treatment-resistant depression

After you fill out you’re interested in a pharmacogenetic test and make your payment (normally $799, but through here it’s only $499), you will receive your test kit in the mail. You’ll receive an envelope and swabs, with a prepaid envelope as well. The test itself is so simple, all you do is swab the inside of your cheek, place it in the envelope, seal it, and then place it inside the prepaid envelope and send it back.

After a few weeks, your test will be complete and a physician will call you with your test results. The best part about this is it is all HIPAA compliant, so you don’t have to worry about PanaceaPGX sharing your information with anyone else.

When the physician calls you, they will go over your test results pretty in depth, and the information will be overwhelming. It was for me, but I understood a lot of it, and yes some was confusing. Don’t worry though, as you will receive a written copy to your email as well. You will be able to understand it all so much better at that time, and if you have any questions at all, you can call back and talk to someone. PanaceaPGX can even mail a copy to your current doctor!

It’s really all so simple, it was a painless procedure, and the results I received back were priceless. Our genes will never change, so this is a one time test, you won’t have to take it ever again. You can now easily work with your doctor on the perfect medicinal regimen that works with your body once you have the information from this test.

Order your test today for a discount of $499 (a $300 savings).
(They offer financing as well, just in case you were curious.)

I have never heard of a test like this. I think it is a good idea to figure out what works best for you.

This is great information and I wish doctors would automatically do this with each patient! it would be so much easier to find the right meds to work for everyone!

I used to have a friend in NC who would react the exact opposite way the directions and label info would say. If it said it will make you drowsy she acted like she had a shot of caffeine and if it says the other she would almost immediately fall asleep. Amazing how the chemical makeup of humans is so varied.

This was very informative to read. I really just try to not take as many medications unless it's absolutely necessary.
