Welcome to Everything Mommyhood’s Recaro Performance Car Seat Review & Giveaway!!!
Thanks so much to our co-host Frugal Fanatic, and of course Recaro for sponsoring this wonderful giveaway event for Everything Mommyhood’s 4 year Blogiversary! We have teamed up with a handful of bloggers to offer our readers a chance to win a Recaro Performance Sport Harness Booster Car Seat! We received the Recaro Performance Harness Booster in “Redd” for our review.
Here at Everything Mommyhood, if you’re a follower of our blog, you know how important car seat safety is to us, and how passionate we are about the safety of our children when using car seats. Please read our in depth Car Seat Tips post.
The very first thing, right off the bat that I love about this car seat is it’s made right here in the USA. It seems this is becoming less and less common, and I’d rather buy from a USA made company than overseas.
The Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat is a great fit for forward facing toddlers and young children. This is a forward facing seat and will harness children 20-90lbs with a height of 27 inches up to 50 inches tall. For a booster seat it will fit a child 30-120lbs and a height of 37 inches to 59 inches.
This seat has a lot of other great features!
-Comfort enhancing memory foam.
-Twist Resistant HERO technology.
-Racing inspired side impact protection.
-Easy adjust no re-thread harness.
-Enhanced cup holders.
-Quick flip recline mechanism.
I was really impressed with how easy the Recaro Performance Harness Booster Car Seat was to install. I used the LATCH connectors and of course the top tether strap in the back to tighten down to the seat anchor point in the back. The seat doesn’t move at all, which it’s not supposed to. (If your seat moves more than 1 inch in any direction when pulled on, it’s not installed correctly.) To install with LATCH, connect the LATCH to your 2 anchor points in between the seat, and pull the LATCH belt to tighten, push some weight into the seat as you tighten for a tight install. You can also install with a seatbelt, but make sure you pull the seatbelt out all the way, and push down on the seat while you are pulling the seatbelt to tighten. (To find your top tether anchor, please reference your vehicle manual.)
Note: LATCH use must be discontinued at 52 lbs.
I like that the harness straps are padded at the shoulders, as well as where the crotch strap is located. This always makes for comfortable seating for my toddler with little to no complaining. The top straps won’t dig into her neck or leave marks. The padded crotch straps makes sure that when connecting the straps they won’t pinch your child, or if it’s hot out, it protects the heat of the buckle from touching the child. It’s always important to have your kids as comfortable as possible to make a safe driving environment for the parent.
When you put your child in this comfortable car seat, remember to have the harness straps AT or ABOVE their shoulders since it’s a forward facing seat. Also remember the chest clip should ALWAYS be placed over their sternum at armpit level. It should never be on their neck or their belly. One last thing, remember the straps MUST be tight, as snug as a bug, there should be NO slack AND they should NOT be twisted. (See picture below)
With the Easy No Re-thread system of this car seat, it’s always easy to make sure the straps are located where they should be. Once the straps are Below the shoulders you need to move the straps up. If you reach the maximum height to where you can’t extend the car seat any taller, they have outgrown the harness and will need to use this seat as a Booster with a seatbelt.
To use the easy no re-thread harness, to make the straps higher or lower, the seat must be uninstalled. You will then pull on a handle then lift the bar into the spot where the straps fit your child best. Make sure you reinstall the car seat correctly, and use the top tether to anchor.
I like that the straps have white threading around them, this shows you that the straps aren’t twisted or messed up, and you can check it with a quick look.
I also wanted to show my 5 year old in this seat too, with plenty of room to go. She can be harnessed in this seat until probably 6.5-7 years old.
She is 5 years old, 40lbs and 47″ tall.
I did not use the booster part of this car seat, but it’s easy enough to do. You can read about it in the manual, but all you need to do is remove the harness straps (easy enough and simple instructions are in the manual), then you will adjust the height of the back of where you need the seatbelt to lie on your child.
The Recaro Performance Harness Booster car seat is a great choice for your growing toddler, as this will last them for a very long time (It fits my 2 year old and my 5 year old). It’s also a great seat if you have a smaller vehicle, it’s a slim seat, so it doesn’t take up a lot of room.
You can purchase this seat for $299.99 at various retailers such as Buy Buy Baby, Amazon, Diapers.com, and more. Right now on Amazon you can get this seat for only $199.99!

I like the twist resistance and the fact it's made in the US. I think I'd choose either the blue or black.
