Recaro Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat Review & Giveaway – ends 3/28

Car seat safety is so important to myself and my family, and RECARO makes that possible. RECARO sent me the RECARO Performance RIDE Convertible Car Seat in Midnight, which is only available at Babies ‘R Us, to review for you as well as host a giveaway! I’ve actually been looking for another RECARO for my SUV as my 6 year old is still harnessed in a RECARO, so I was happy to have two RECARO’s in my vehicle. I will tell you not all car seats are created equal (even though they all pass the same safety tests), and RECARO continues to come out on top for me. They are the best seats I have had the pleasure of reviewing.

The very first thing, right off the bat, that I love about this car seat is it’s made right here in the USA. It seems this is becoming less and less common, and I’d rather buy from a USA made company than overseas.

My daughter fell asleep within the first hour of the first car ride in our new RECARO Performance RIDE.

The RECARO Performance RIDE is a convertible car seat, which means you can rear-face AND forward-face this car seat. The best thing about this seat is the higher limits for rear facing, which I’m a firm believer in extended rear-facing (why you ask? because the longer you rear face, the safer your child will be..before you jump to conclusions on a possible leg break, do your research, I promise it’s safer). I wasn’t a huge car seat crazy person until I had my second child, so we have done so much more with her. She rear faced until age 3, which she was 23lbs and 36 inches tall. Extended rear-facing is so easy to do with the RECARO Performance RIDE!

First off, let me jump right in and tell you the limits of this lovely convertible car seat, that’s only available at Babies ‘R Us!

Rear-facing: 5-40 lbs; up to 22.5 inches seated height (this means the height of your child’s torso, from their bottom and up. Don’t get this confused with total, standing height)
Forward-facing: 20-65 lbs; up to 49 inches standing height (my 6 year old is just 48 inches, so she actually still fits in this seat)

One of the most convenient features is the No Re-thread system. You don’t have to take you baby/toddler out of their seat and re thread the harness, and then reinstall the car seat. The RECARO Performance RIDE has simple knobs you can turn that will raise/lower the harness straps as well as the back of the seat.

There’s nothing more than making a mommy’s life easier, and this feature alone makes this car seat a great buy. It saves you time and stress!

Let’s talk installation!

Installing this seat is a breeze. I had this seat installed in under a minute. I’m a huge fan of LATCH (plus the seat belts in my car aren’t just regular seat belts, they have air bags in the actual seat belt), especially with the easy to use LATCH connectors on the RECARO.

Once you install this seat, make sure you install the top tether (only if you’re forward-facing) to the anchor. Mine is located on the back side of my seat down at the bottom. (I drive a 2013 Ford Explorer with 3 rows.)

My daughter was in the Evenflo Symphony DLX Platinum before installing this seat, the first thing I noticed when I installed the RECARO Performance RIDE was how high up this seat sits! It sits up a lot higher and it’s easier for me to see my toddler in the rear-view mirror now, and she can easily see out all of the windows too.

***Something very important to remember when installing via LATCH. The RECARO Performance RIDE weights 24lbs, so if your child weighs OVER 41lbs, you will need to install via seat belt instead of LATCH. LATCH limits are only 65lbs (the weight of your child and the seat).***
