Recipe: Bean Soup

I saved the ham bone from the ham we had on Thanksgiving and threw it in the freezer. When I was little I remember my mom always made a bean soup with a ham bone as well. The weather has been freezing cold here for days now, in fact it’s 32 degrees outside right now. Here is the recipe!

Bean Soup in the crock pot
Ingredients: Ham Bone
7 cups of chicken broth
1 onion, diced
2 celery stalks, minced
1/2 teaspoon of pepper
1 tablespoon of minced garlic, or 1 clove
1 lb of Great Northern Beans, rinsed and pick bad ones out

Directions:
Basically you just throw everything in the crock pot and cook on 7-8 hours low.
In the last hour pull your bone out and get the meat off of it, put the meat back in.
Mash up about 1/2 cup of beans to thicken up the soup, stir it all together.
Serve! I served with mini corn bread muffins that I made.

This is a great recipe, vegetarians will have to leave out the ham bone. Mayne using vegetable broth in place of the ham bone might work. Thank you for sharing this recipe.
