Recipe: Homemade Sweet N Sour Chicken EASY

For all those asking for the homemade sweet n sour that I posted on my facebook tonight…I adapted it from a recipe I found online here, and I think the way I made it is better than it would have been if I followed the original (sorry to Made It. Ate It. Loved It.)

Ingredients:
3 chicken breasts
S & P
2 eggs
1 cup of cornstarch
Vegetable/Canola oil

Sauce ingredients:
1/2 cup of white sugar
1/4 cup of ketchup heaping (original called for 4 tablespoons, so added a little more by mine being heaping)
1/4 cup of white vinegar
1 tablespoon of soy sauce
1 teaspoon of garlic salt

Directions:
3 chicken breasts, trimmed and cubed
salt and pepper the chicken, I just peppered it, I’m not a huge salt fan
dip the cut chicken into egg, then coat with cornstarch
fry in a skillet til golden brown (over med heat)
while chicken is frying, mix sauce ingredients in a bowl and set aside
DRAIN the grease using a colander (I didn’t do this and thought I got most of it with a spoon, wrong, it was still very good though)
after all chicken is cooked, pour the sauce over top and toss together in skillet until the sauce is glazed over, the sauce will gel up and become a coating (about 5 or so minutes)

What I’d do different next time, I would add some red pepper flakes for a little heat to the sauce, I’d also drain the oil off the chicken, and serve over some white rice. I really think this is the best sweet n sour chicken I have ever had though!!! Yum! (and I LOVE Chinese food!)

I would like to try this with tofu instead of chicken. It is a recipe you could make and change it up as you like!

I haven't had sweet and sour chicken in ages. My husband loves the stuff. It's a good change if pace. I get tired of having chicken cooked the same old way all the time.
