Scam at Toys R Us Check Out Online

So last night after placing an order with Toys ‘R’ Us and us okaying to pay $53 (free shipping because we were over their $49 free shipping limit) and confirming the order was final at $53, come to find out they charged our debit card $69 and took an item off because it became out of stock, so we were out the item, and $20 shipping was charged WITHOUT our permission, that we did not say okay to. ..I then got an email that they were processing our order for that amount, so immediately went online and canceled it, got a cancellation confirmation email…move on to today and got another email saying order was confirmed…call Toys”R”Us and they tell us too bad basically, after talking to 5 different people and between my husband and I we spent 1.5 hours on the phone..my husband was supposed to receive a call back from a supervisor within 30-45 min, it’s now been another 1.5 hours.

This quite possibly will be the last time I ever shop with Toys R’ Us again…they should be named Scam R’ Us. After reading their facebook page and posts from others, it looks like we aren’t the only one this seems to have happened to. How sad to do this to their customers, especially in today’s economy where people live paycheck to paycheck. Now we have $69 just sitting tied up in nothing.

I'm pretty sure it's illegal for Toys R Us to offer deals (such as free shipping, get one for free, discounts, etc.) and then to revise the offer to suit their financial gain without your authorization of these changes (should an item become unavailable, etc.). Most stores have their systems set up so that you have to resubmit your order and if they run out, after the fact, the outcome tends to be fair (as opposed to what you just went through). Reason being, by law, you are now within your legal rights to cancel the entire order and to get a FULL REFUND. I would suggest reporting Toys R Us to www.IC3.gov for investigation.
