This is a guest post from a dear friend of mine as herself and her family visited the park and documented their fun and amazing trip!
We’ve lived around the Richmond, VA area for awhile now, but hadn’t been to Kings Dominion in a while, and it was long over due for us to go. We were super excited to find out that Kings Dominion had The Tasted of VA festival going on at Kings Dominon until May 21st, so we just knew we had to attend.
My husband and I as well as our three children had the opportunity to spend Sunday, May 7th, 2017 at Kings Dominion to check out the taste of Virginia Festival. While we have been season ticket holders in the past we had never experienced The Taste of Virginia Festival. It was such a treat and great time had by all! Parking was quick and easy and so was making our way into the park.
Virginia is for Lovers! Whether you love food, wine, beer or coasters… Kings Dominion’s brand new event, Taste of Virginia, is sure to delight! On Saturdays and Sundays from May 6 to May 21, this brand new, mouth-watering event, will take place in the Candy Apple Grove section of the park.
Yummy, aromas filled the park with recipes inspired by various regions north south east and west of Virginia. This was such an awesome opportunity to be able to try everything from around Virginia. Also, I thought it was great that people who weren’t familiar with Virginia could get a taste of everything as well.
The food was such a delight, we started with Chesapeake mac and cheese from Chesapeake (hands down, my favorite). Fried chicken and dumplings (my husbands favorite) from The Blue Ridge and shrimp and grits from Tidewater. While we didn’t try everything, everything looked amazing and smelled awesome. We Sipped wine from a local Vineyard called Rockbridge and enjoyed live music played by a band called Stonebrook.
The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable to their menus, which I thought was really great. The venue was nicely decorated and attractive to the eye. The kids as well as my husband and I had a great experience and will return again and again.
Before leaving, of course we had to head on over to Planet Snoopy where we were pleasantly surprised by many new upgrades. New rides and a pavilion, kudos to KD! Planet Snoopy is over 14 ACRES of Peanuts fun. There are shows, rides, and even opportunities to meet the characters from Peanuts. I was really impressed with Planet Snoopy. The rides are geared towards the littlest KD fans, but our kiddos weren’t the only ones who enjoyed them.
We spent the rest of the day just enjoying our family. Riding all the rides we could. All of my kids had a blast. There truly is something for everyone at Kings Dominion, whether you’re looking for kiddie rides (which at fun for adults too) or all of those thrill seeker rides, like all of the fun rollercoasters KD has to offer.
We renewed our season passes for 2017 on our way out, as we want to be able to do everything, and in reality just one day isn’t enough for this big park. There are so many benefits of being a season pass holder, including free parking, discounts on food and merchandise and even early entry into the park!
We are eager to spend much of our summer in Soak City, which is a water park conveniently located inside Kings Dominion. Soak City and Kings Dominion are all on the same ticket, same price, so you get to enjoy two in one. What a steal! The water park opens May 27th, 2017. We can’t wait! You HAVE to visit both, and let me know what you think.
The taste of Virginia is going on now through May 21st, so hurry and try it out!

I have not been to King's Dominion in many years but my daughter lives in Virginia so we need to take the time to go. The Festival looks like it was lots of fun and my grandchildren would love the water park.
